Movie: The Change-Up

I loved freaky Friday. The comedy of the film, the execution, the cast was all 'A Grade'. However that was more of a kiddy film, so if you want your freaky Friday with a bit more kick, adult features and men in very interesting situations, HO HO HO this movie is so for you.

I have to admit although i love Ryan Reynolds (Guys Hot) his movie's although funny, have never really been more than a 3 for me (yes including proposal) or crack my rib kinda fun. So i wasn't really fussed about the film, i had already marked it a slide for the eyes*, that all changed after watching this film. Director David Dobkin couldn't have had a better cast, that not only feed off each other but compliment each other as well.

The film is a typical switch-a-roo movie, two people switch lives and have to make do with the out-come and deal with the others lives. The story line of 'The Change-Up' is no different. The only difference is the comedic effect that Bateman and Reynolds bring to the set.

Reynolds is the happy go lucky loser slacker, with too much time and too much sex, while Bateman is the overworked father of three with too little time and too little sex, with a quick piss in a fountain (you'd think they learned) sha-bang, lives a la switch. They play each other so well, we can't but laugh and laugh harder as the dynamic duo goes through very disgusting situations with pregnant people, bikers and breasts, that we can't but be entertained.

With a stellar support cast such as Olivia Wilder, Leslie Mann, Alan Arkin. This film had everything a good comedy needs

Movie: Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I mean Wow, when that chimp talked for the first time, you could hear the inhale from everyone at the movies. I mean talk about wow.

To be honest, i wasn't a fan of the first remake with Mark Wahlberg, in actual fact i detested it (can't remember why though), so when my sister more or less forced me to go to the cinema and watch this supposed prologue i was not impressed, but OMG was i wrong.

Not only did the movie captivate me from the on set, i began to sympathies and root for the chimps, ( i mean come on humans where cruel).

The movie portrays and  beginning to explain the events that happened in the 2001 remake of the Planet of the apes, as we get to see how it all began. Through this we see that once again the downfall of man is yet again the result of their own hands, or rather in this case the desire of one man to cure his father and in doing so unwilling sets into motions events that result in the destruction of man.

James Franco plays Will Rodman, a scientist on the search for a cure to Alzheimer's disease that is slowly destroying his father. During his search we meet poacher chimp bright eyes who is administered a drug that enhances brain function, but in an attempt to save her assumed threaten son i shot dead and the compassionate doctor saves him and brings him up as his on. Understandably the chimp grows up with inherited smartness and confusion as to who he really is.

Throughout the movie we follow Caesar on his road of self discovery and also the humans path down self destruction. We see the events that lead to the broken world in Planet of the apes.

I mean those who liked or disliked the first movie will absolutely love this movie, with stellar actor, amazing detail to graphics and story line, you will be captivated from the beginning to the very end.

Movie: Fast Five

Vroom! Vroom!

Welcome to the world of fast women and most importantly fast cars. In case you've never heard of the fast and furious Franchise (weirdo) this is definitely one to start with as it keeps you pumped and thirsty for more (except for Tokyo Drift but thats just me).

Fast five continues right after Fast and Furious as our fav fast car criminal Dominic Toretto has being cruelly sentenced to a long ass stretch and we follow him and his crew including his beloved sister, confused loved up Cop Brian, and long lost friends, Han, TJ, Roman and those 2 talking dudes, oh and that sexy chick from film 4, as they once again want to do another last job in order to secure their futures.

In this film our fast criminals (Nice) take on the head of the Brazilian criminal world Rhys and along side that we are joined by that little chick cop (Letty's replacement, PFFT pls) and the big man himself Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson playing Hobbs a killer criminal hunter who has taken the lead on bringing Dom & Co to justice. We witness mesmerizing car chases and also are given front row sit to the battle of the century as two tough beat down men namely Vin and Dwayne are in a fight that the trailers only gave us a taste of.

Fast Five lives up to the Fast and Furious reputation and goes beyond, giving it the title of 'Best in the Series' (even if letty isn't there) and the film portrays a happy ending for all those lucky to survive. However the little snippet at the end gives us hope that their is more in store and this isn't the last we will hear of Dominic Torreto.

Movie: Transformers: Dark of the Moon

I don't get some people, I just don't.

Yeah when the first transformers came out, talk about WOW. Then the second one came out and everyone started to talk smack about it, even leading actor Shia Labeouf said it wasn't great, but i don't think it's as bad as everyone was making it sound. I mean I didn't even think it was bad, until people started talking and it started placing doubts in my head. All I could concentrate on apart from the stellar graphics was wondering whether Megan Fox had a lip lift(?) or whatever they call it.

Now the third movie is out and yet again people are saying it was crap, but yet again I thought it was great. I guess the fact that Megan didn't reprise her role was a minus for me (I like peps finishing what they started) but still her replacement Rose did an ok job (her accent annoyed though). The film had action, comedy, drama, stellar graphic yet again, qualities that every good action movie needs.

The movie is set a couple of years after the last Transformers as Sam (Shia), like the rest of us graduates is having a difficult time landing a decent paying respectable job. Little does he no that that was the least of his worries, as an impending robot take over was in the horizon. Joined with old and new allies (I mean where do they come from) and also meeting surprising enemies. Transformers: Dark side of the Moon, is a delightful, thrilling end to the transformers saga, Michael Bay you've done it again.

I recommend it as one to watch, even though their are haters out there who just don't appreciate a good ear deafening eye candy. Even the new Linkin Park soundtrack was tops !COME ON!

Movie: X-Men First Class

All those who love X-Men say 'I'....

If you ain't saying 'I' there is something wrong with you, I don't ever think X-men can get old.

Now i know most people are all getting tired of X-men, i mean its like they keep getting reborn and we are exposed to the constant 'hate mutant regime' which is very depressing, however onstad of our good marvel folks to progress on with the story and let us get settled in with the hate we are used to, they decide to take us back to the beginning where Professor X is still bong drinking geek Charles Xavier and Magneto was vengeance seeking Erik Lehnsherr (not much difference then). We go back and see how it all began, from te realisation of the mutant abilities to how they deal with discovery and all attempt in their own way to adapt to the changing world. We see how the bromance between Prof. X and Magneto came to an emotional ended. Along the line we also meet the young Raven Darkholme (Mystique) and Hank Macoy (Beast) as the movie also sheds light into how they dealt with the very no so obvious mutations, and grew into the peps we know and love so well.

The movie takes us in a new direction which capticates the viewers and we join the X-men on their join battles against humans and mutants alike.

Mcavoy and Fassbender's portrayal of Prof. X and Magneto is one for the books as their performances enables us to begin to understand the characters more and we can see how their different environmental factors   play a major factor to the ideologies and the eventual break up of the bromance.

With stellar graphics and a brand new cast line such as Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne and rising star Jennifer Lawrence, Director Matthew Vaughan once again makes us take a superhero journey with the X-men franchise and with it re-ignited the love of  x-men for those whose emotions dwindled (traitors).

Movie: Kung fu Panda 2 (2011)

His Done it again!! Our fun Loving black and white hero is back in the mind blowing, ass kicking sequel to the successful motion picture, Kung-fu Panda. Along with all the previous cast, we are joined by new voices such as Gary Oldman, Victor Garber, Michelle Yoeh and even action man himself Jean Claude Van Damme.

We rejoin Po in his little village in the valley, as he has officially taking the title 'Dragon Warrior', and against all odds, his doing an all right job of it. However like every Kung-Fu movie, peace is not lasting, and a new villain arrives, in the form of a disgraced prince peacock (very evil).

Ashamed prince Shen, comes back and proves to be a formidable foe, tossing aside heroes left and right, even making some prefer jail. His arrival also bring insight into the mysterious past of our hero Po, and we are astounded to find that the noodle cooking duck is not really his Po's father...GASP... ( i mean i was shocked).

Kung Fu Panda two does a fantastic job of a sequel, it still retains the humour of the first and adds more, it included a more sinister villain (who would've thought), more action packed fighting and stunts, and also that element of wisdom that all parents and kids alike can fully appreciate together, it is a fantastic film that fulfills all the viewers need and is sooo worth the £7.70 I paid to watch it.

Movie: Thor

Marvel Studios have done it again, joining the ranks of Ironman and Hulk we are finally introduced to Thor ‘The God of Thunder’.

Thor is an explosive movie that the whole family can sit together and enjoy.  It brings together the genres of action and romance well, as we tag along on Thor’s journey of love and of self discovery, leading to the growth of a worthy king and a great superhero. Chris Hemsworth portrayal and the added humour to the character thrusts the film into the realm of success.  We as the audience are constantly entertained as the film never losses memento and every minute of the film in laced with action, new information and constant connection to the previous avenger movies, leaves us gasping for more.

The movie is not only a success because of the superb acting of stars, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston, but also the outstanding graphics that we are subjected to with the 3D effect. The graphical display of the beautiful environment and the world’s makes us want to visit Asgard ourselves and gives us a sense of realism, which further carries the movie to optimum success.  We can’t wait for our next hero.

Prison Break (season 1)

I just finished watching the season 1 of Prison Break, and OMG I see what the hype was all about. I have to admit when i first heard of Prison Break i was less than thrilled, a guy having blueprints tattooed all over his body, in order to go into prison to break his brother out for a crime he didn't commit, seemed like a one season wonder to me. So when my sister bought the box set and forced us all to watch it together, i had my ipod at hand with a good book so i could block out what i considered a colossal watse of money. But i am big enough to admit that, was I wrong.

I almost instantaneously fell in love with Michael, the immaculate plan he developed and the devotion he showed to his brother. I mean in most series, when you see the main character in difficult situation, their personality starts to change or in some cases just become plan annoying, but not in this case. Michael stayed true to who he was, never once compromising his beliefs or losing focus on why he was in that prison, he planned for any and every possible situation, which they said is only a possibility because of his high IQ and low latent inhibition (I already tested myself and i so don't have LLI Dammit!).

The series was well executed, as each episode was better than the less and us viewers where kept constantly intrigued. I watched as bumps and questions came and were just as swiftly solved or half answered, which left us wanting more and  trying to figure out the big picture was, from the beginning to the very end.

We were also introduced to amazing characters such as Sucre, Haywire and even T-Bag, who I have to say is my favourite behind Mr Scofield.

Overall I am very happy to have been forced to watch this series and cant wait to get started on season 2, (kinda glad I waited because i would have been highly unimpressed if i was watching it in real time and they left me with that kind of cliff hanger)
